Midlands Testing Services is a family-owned company that provides a unique on-site alcohol testing service and urine collection for drug testing to our railroad and airline clients. This is a requirement by the Federal Government to help ensure that those operating trains and planes are drug and alcohol-free.
The work we do is conducted every day at thousands of clinics and doctors’ offices. The difference is that our clients request us to come to their locations on a day and time that works for them. Trains and planes need to keep moving; therefore, conductors and pilots can’t afford to wait in a clinic’s waiting room.
Most of the testing events are scheduled a few days in advance, while other tests arise as “come right now” emergency situations. This part-time work differs from normal part-time jobs due to the nature of the clients we serve. You will not be “clocking in” and “clocking out.” This work operates on a per-job request basis. You go, perform the work, and then are free to leave.
You will always work with the onsite manager. The manager is responsible for bringing you the donor(s) to be tested. An office or private area is provided for you at each location.
The alcohol test results are obtained onsite.
The urine sample is packaged and shipped to a laboratory for testing. You will be provided with all necessary materials for the sample and shipping. Your responsibilities include checking for signs of tampering, quantity, and reading the temperature strip. Complete the form and package the specimen for shipping.
Railroads and airlines operate 24/7/365; therefore, tests can happen at any time of day. Most testing occurs between 6:00 AM to 11:00 PM. A small amount of testing is done overnight. You must be open to accepting work 24 hours a day on the rare occasions it is needed. We understand that unforeseen circumstances such as illness, family visits, or vacations may arise, and we are accommodating, but a general open availability is necessary for this position.
We have a 24/7 Call Center located in Omaha, Nebraska, to answer any questions you may have while performing this work. Yes, you will be trained, but there will always be someone physically present at our office to assist and answer questions.
If you have another job that lacks extreme flexibility, this may not be a good fit. Similarly, if you are the sole caregiver for an elderly adult or young child without immediate alternative support, this position may not suit you.
Individuals who excel at this position generally have open availability to accept both scheduled and immediate work. Some testing situations require an absence of 1 hour, while others may extend up to 6 hours.
As mentioned earlier, this is a part-time position. The workload will vary depending on your location. I am happy to provide further details upon discussion.
Compensation will be discussed during a phone interview. Most subcontractors average about $30 – $40 per hour, depending on the job. Payment is made via direct deposit on the 1st and 15th of the month. This is a well-paying part-time position suitable for someone with open availability, a commitment to quality work, and a professional demeanor. You must be proactive in asking questions as they arise.
Please complete the questionnaire below; it helps us gather information about you and start a conversation to determine if this position is a good fit. Your answers and information will be sent to our office for review. Training will involve reading DOT Regulations, a 5-hour internet course, and a meeting with a representative for regulation review and practice tests.
Based on your questionnaire responses, I will reach out to those who align with what we are looking for. A phone call will follow to explain the testing process, compensation, client locations in your area, the training process, and address any further questions you may have.
Thank you once again for your interest.
